About Thrive Market
Thrive Market is an online retailer specializing in healthy and organic foods.  Similar to brick and mortar shopping clubs a membership to Thrive gets you access to discounts on carefully selected items.

The company was founded on the principle that eating healthy quality foods should not be difficult or expensive.  With the online marketplace they solve both issues by making the shopping experience convenient, and using the buying power of many to drive down costs.

When it comes to product selection Thrive focuses on partnering with the top brands serving a variety of health food niches.  Instead of overwhelming you with food options they hand pick the top products and focus on getting you the best price for them.

How Does it Work?

You can register for free and start browsing their selections.  First time shoppers get 15% off their first purchase.  When you do make your first purchase your free thirty day trial of the Thrive Marketplace will go into effect.

Once the trial is up you will be charged $59.95 annually for your continued use of the service.  This comes out to around $5 a month which they claim is offset by your average savings of 35% of retail costs.

All together they feature over 400 brands with 2,500+ premium foods, supplements, home, personal care, and beauty products.  You can easily narrow your search to feature products based on your dietary needs.  For instance you can sort by Paleo, Gluten Free, Raw, or Vegan.  You can also use over 90+ product filters for more specific needs like allergy restrictions, organic/gmo, and various other product standards.

Customer Service:

If you have any questions or would like to cancel your membership you can do so at any time by speaking to a customer representative.  They can be reached via their contact page at www.thrivemarket.com/faq?contactus, or by phone at (866) 419-2174.

Online Reviews/Complaints:

The website is still in Beta and customer reviews are slowly starting to come in.  Thrive does have the support of some popular Paleo bloggers such as Mark Sisson from Primal Blueprint.  They also have a growing fanbase on social media with over 4k facebook followers.

Competitors and Alternatives:

Specialty health food providers have embraced the internet as a great way to get their products out directly to the consumers.  You can find almost anything that you need for any diet online.  However using one dedicated online retailer gives you access to better savings and the convenience of one source; some other online Paleo retailers include Julian Bakery, Organic Prairie, and Vital Choice.

Coupons/Discounts:

Currently Thrive is offering first time shoppers 25% off their first purchase and free shipping on orders over $49.  Start your free trial today at Thrive Market.

If you are a member of Thrive Market or have checked out the free trial please review and rate your experience below.

Very hard time cancelling membership

I've already requested to cancel my membership during their free trial membership 2 times. Each time they want me to continue with an offer. 1st one was a free extension of 1 month. 2nd offer was to extend membership for $29.95. it's taken 3 days over email to try to cancel my membership, and still not yet cancelled. This morning I've emailed for the 3x time to cancel. Let's see what happens... This is a waste of my time if someone cannot cancel membership easily.

I had the same experience. They make it hard to cancel membership. Similar to how AOL was years ago. Very disappointing and very off putting with their customer service.

Very happy with products and service. Great idea.

Been ordering for a few months now, definitely like everything I have purchased. I live in the country so this is well worth the annual fee to me, as I would otherwise have to travel 80 miles roundtrip to find any healthy choices. Have had great service, arrives in a timely manner. With all the trashy food out there in the grocery store I am grateful to have an alternative source!!

If I could give 0 stars...

I have not placed an order yet, and won't be. Strike number one was that I entered my friends' email addresses to have them "invited" to check out Thrive Market. My friends then filled me in that my name was being used as the sender of these emails, essentially spamming them and tricking them into thinking I was the sender when in reality it was Thrive Market. I don't know any reputable company that does that. Strike number two, I emailed to complain about that process and got an automated response that I would hear within a couple days...I didn't receive a response until a full 10 days later. Their excuse was that "Due to increased outreach, we’ve had a delay with our customer correspondence." Yea no kidding, because you run a sketchy business. They never had a good answer for my complaint and just kept saying to unsubscribe to the emails. They seem to be missing the point about my name being used as the sender. Strike three, I decided I won't be ordering anything from this company, so I wanted to delete my credit card information from their site. I don't see anywhere to do that and have not yet received a response. Judging by the other reviews here, it won't be an easy process.

They refused to cancel after I repeatedly asked, in writing

I asked, by email, to cancel my membership several times and each time they came back with a different offer. I emphatically stated I wanted to cancel and never heard back from them. Then, my credit card was charged. When I called, I got the same garbage over the phone that they tried in my email. I had to actually YELL at the poor lady on the phone in order for her to process my cancellation. This poor lady probably deals with nice callers like me who have to get mean because they don't listen when you want to cancel. I hope she finds a better job soon. Thrive is a scam company...just read all the reviews and issues they have stealing people's money and hoping they don't notice.

Cancelled not once but twice... Still charged.

Title says it all. Also, don't bother trying to use the phone contact number they respond with one here. Does a half ring and goes to a prerecorded response. No option to leave message and no answer.

Avoid this service like the plague.

Charged multiple membership fees in first three months

I wish I had read reviews before I signed up for the free trial. Yes, I got some decent deals during the trial period, but nowhere near enough to justify a $59 annual membership fee. So I tried to cancel. I got two sales pitches. They will hard sell the crap out of you when you try to cancel. The second guy promised me $29 for the first year--I had it in writing. $29 a year is a decent price and I would actually pay that for this service. So I agreed. HUGE mistake!

TWO months later I got an email saying I was going to be charged the $59 annual fee in four days--and when you go on their website there is no way to cancel. There is no way to remove your credit card number. There is nothing you can do, except send messages to them through their form. I still haven't gotten a response. When you're cancelling your trial they respond right away. When you're objecting to their false advertising and shady billing practices--good luck getting a response.

This is a very shady company. Check the Better Business Bureau--they've had more than 60 complaints in less than a year! I'm waiting to see if the charge shows up on my credit card--if it does I will be filing a complaint.

Do NOT get sucked in. Stay firm in cancelling after the trial period. The savings aren't worth it.

Extremely difficult to cancel membership

I echo what others have written: if you decide to cancel your membership, there's no way to do so through the website, and your emails will not succeed either (someone will write back offering you a half-price membership and asking you to reconsider, etc., or simply ignore the email). I finally managed--I think; hopefully I won't be charged again--by calling customer service and staying on hold for a long time. If you search online you can also see the Better Business Bureau has received many complains about Thrive Market. Avoid Thrive Market!

Bad cancellation process - very sketchy!

I checked out the Thrivemarket intro offer, and after seeing that a) they didn't care the items that I regularly use and could use some savings on and b) I would rather support my local co-ops, cancelled the free introductory offer. Or tried to anyway. They came back with an extended intro, I gave it another month, didn't order anything, and requested a cancellation of the guest membership 22 days ahead of when my end date/charge for a yearly membership was scheduled. They kept emailing back with new offers, and it require three separate emails requesting the cancellation - running the clock to 4/15, when the membership charge was set for 4/21. Upshot? Got charged. Yep. It took a phone call to get the charge refunded and account closed...and now to see how long that actually takes. VERY unhappy with them, and now distrustful of the whole service.

Their customer service is a deal breaker

I don't have time to describe my whole story but the short version is that they used high-pressure tactics to get and keep my business and then didn't deliver on what they said they'd do—even though I had it in writing. On top of that, this dysfunction in my experience with them recurred around several issues. When I expressed my shock about this recurring experience to a Thrive Market supervisor, she responded as if it was rather not-shocking to her.

The whole experience wasted quite a bit of my time and left the disappointment of an unfulfilled agreement. There was no accountability whatsoever. I even shared my feedback when they sent a "We miss you" email and $10-off coupon but never heard back from them.

On a side note, including the fact that there's an annual membership fee required, their prices aren't so great compared to other similar online vendors from which I've been shopping hassle-free for many years and will now stick with.

Hi Jennifer! We're sorry to hear that you had an unpleasant experience with cancelling your account. Because it is important to us that the natural products that we offer are affordable and accessible to all, we may offer an alternative membership option to accommodate a trial member. This personalized cancellation process is important to us as we continue to improve our service.

Our members have found us to be cheaper than other retailers 90% of the time. While other vendors may have sales, our prices are consistently offered at 25-50% off the suggested retail price. Unique to Thrive Market as an online vendor is our commitment to sustainability and most importantly our social mission, which is to make healthy living easy and affordable for everyone. The membership fee allows us distribute free memberships to low-income families, first responders, teachers, and veterans.

Essentially, the membership is more than just access to wholesome products at wholesale prices!

If you have any further questions or concerns, please call us Monday-Saturday between 9am and 6pm PST at (866) 419-2174, or email us at help@thrivemarket.com; We're always happy to help!

Thank you, but I have invested enough time already in communicating with your company, so I've no need to contact Thrive Market again.

And, in response to your comments about sustainability, I really respect and support that in the world—it's a huge aspect of my personal daily activity and lifestyle—AND I want to point out that what that looks like, in order to be defined as authentic sustainability, is to not overextend one area in support of another ... which is exactly and unfortunately what happened consistently for me in my experience in working with Thrive Market. It's got to be realistic for all involved in order to be a true model of sustainability.

Maybe the large degree of negative feedback on Thrive Market is evidence that your company should take a few things back to the drawing board. I sincerely wish you the best of luck with your intentions.

Please also know that "happy to help" is exactly the false promise that inspired my original post here.

Therefore, you may want to investigate that within your company, and specifically with regard to my recorded email dialogue with Nicholas from Thrive Market who gave me several other promises which were eventually denied by Thrive Market, and which were the exclusive conditions on which I'd agreed to a membership commitment with Thrive Market, and for which Thrive Market failed to deliver on after extensive time, energy, and discussion ... all of this is recorded if you look up my name in your company's records (and I could provide the dialogue from my email, as well) ... and for which the supervisor Jasmine seemed to convey in my conversation with her simply as business-as-usual with no explanation or accountability offered other than the rhetorical, "We really try to do our best" when I asked for her assistance with Nicholas's false claims.

Watch out!!!

I had an offer show up in my inbox for a free product. It was something I would use so I ordered it. I also got a couple other small items. They arrived, fine and dandy. No problems. ....... Well wait a month. All of a sudden you get a charge of $59.95! Turns out it was a "membership fee" I never saw anything about that when I placed my order. In all fairness I did not read the small print but who would have thought there would be a sixty dollar membership fee? I contacted them asked for a refund and cancellation. Was told sure no problem. I waited, no refund. I contacted them again, or tried to but they had BLOCKED my email! Seriously!!! I was able to get through by alternate means and again Im promised a refund. Im waiting........ if no refund I go to the BBB with whom (I now find out) they have a BAD reputation.
Stay away!!

Hi Joanne! Much like Costco, Netflix, or Sam's Club, we require a membership fee to have access to our wholesale prices. We offer a free 30-day trial for every new member at Thrive Market to give you a chance to experience Thrive savings firsthand before you commit to an annual membership. Your free trial starts with your first Thrive purchase and will last a full month with full membership benefits. After the trial, if not cancelled, we charge the annual fee for our services, as noted in the policy on the checkout page.

We respond to every cancellation request with an alternative membership option, in effort to accommodate a trial member. We're sorry to hear that you had trouble responding back to us. We do not block emails, as that is not a part of our business practices, nor is it a feature in our system.

If you have any further questions or concerns, please call us Monday-Saturday between 9am and 6pm PST at (866) 419-2174, or email us at help@thrivemarket.com; We're always happy to help!

SKETCHY SLEEZY SCAM TOTAL SCAM

I found thrive market when I was looking to get vitamins. Thrive offered 15% off my first order so I figured I'd go with them. The 15% ended up giving me maybe $2 off in the end after a bunch of charges, but that's beside the point.

Luckily my mom looks at my CC statement and knew thrive market was a membership site because I PLACED AN ORDER AND WAS NOT INFORMED IT IS A MEMBERSHIP SITE.

First red flag right there. Second red flag: when you call in nobody answers within a reasonable time (waited 5 minutes). Third red flag: it's really hard to find a way to cancel membership online.

Fourth and biggest red flag: WHEN YOU SELECT TO CANCEL MEMEBERSHIP, THE RESPONSE IS 'WE HAVE RECEIVED YOUR CANCELLATION REQUEST, A THRIVE REPRESENTATIVE WILL CONTACT YOU SHORTLY.'

Seriously?! Thanks for wasting my time Thrive market you crooked f***s. The site makes them seem like they're a great philanthropy but it's a total scam.

Not Even Worth the Free Trial

I signed up for their free trial after seeing an ad on facebook. They had a promotional gift offer for raw honey. Since raw honey is something I buy a lot of for cooking/baking I figured I'd try it out and decide if I wanted to buy more from them. They charged me for shipping and sent me an email saying that it had shipped.

Three weeks later I hadn't gotten anything. I called them and a customer service rep said she'd look into it and call back in 5 or 10 minutes. An hour passed, so I figured they must have forgotten and called again. The second person I spoke with was very rude and sarcastic. She claimed that the other person called me, I have no record of any incoming call from them, and emailed me. This second person then told me to read my email and acted like I lied about not getting a call.
To the credit of the first rep, they did email me. Apparently they ran out of honey and just hadn't bothered to tell me or refund my shipping charges.

Yes, This Thrive Market is a complete scam!! I did not renew my subscription, but I got an email saying, "Thank you for renewing your Thrive Market subscription." I emailed back saying that I did not renew, nor did I wish to. I kept getting emails thanking me for renewing my subscription , to which I kept replying that I did NOT want to renew. Finally, after two days of this back & forth, I got an email informing that the site I was responding to had not been active since August of 2015!!! I called the number provided & kept getting "We are sorry, but we are unable to take your call at this time" & providing another email address, or "We are sorry, but we are receiving a very large volume of calls", then I would be on hold for 30 minutes or more. When I emailed the new address, I got nothing. I have been trying for two days to get through to these people without any success. I finally called my bank & told them the story, & they are going to monitor my account & not put any Thrive Market transactions. This is a total ripoff & scam, & I am very dissapointed in Mark Sisson that he would actually endorse this fraudulent outfit. I trusted Mark, & because of him, I subscribed to Thrive. Well, I will definitely think twice before I follow any of his endorsements again.

Unethical

Please be cautious of using this service. When you place an order they promise you a free gift for spending a certain amount of money. I spent the required amount of money and was promised a free gift of avacado oil. The gift was not delivered as promised, with no explanation. After contacting customer service, this is the response I get. What a scam. I'll be making a BBB complaint to see if this is even legal to do because it's certainly not ethical.

Thank you so much for shopping at Thrive Market!

I'm so sorry to hear that your gift with purchase was not included in your order! Due to the high demand of this promotion, it was out of stock at the time your order was fulfilled by our distribution center. As noted in the terms and conditions, this offer expires when supplies run out.

I do apologize for the inconvenience. We have a ton of promotions every week, so keep an eye on your email and follow us on social media for early access to the next great offer!

For the inconvenience, I'd like to offer you 10% off your next order with coupon code $&!?"@&!

Overpriced, shady sales tactics

I signed up for a trial and attempted to cancel it before I was charged for a membership. Their website is so confusing. I could not find info on how to cancel so I sent them a cancellation request email. I was charged $59.95 and called them to ask what the deal was and they said they didn't receive the cancellation. So, I am now stuck with this membership.

After doing some research, I find that their prices are NOT cheaper and their products NOT superior to those I could find elsewhere. The membership is not worth it in my opinion. Membership doesn't exclude you from paying shipping and the prices aren't good enough to entice me to order.

HORRIBLE CUSTOMER SERVICE

DO NOT apply for the free member trial.. its a trap!!! I tried it, and although I liked their products they offer I didn't think the membership would be worth it. I emailed them after my first shipment and said to cancel my membership. First they try to change the membership price to reflect a price you would maybe pay for. When I said no that I wanted it cancelled they said ok and that i just had to reply to the email to verify it. After reading negative reviews about cancelling, I wanted to double check my membership was cancelled. When I double checked they said they didn't have anything on file and then offered me a lower price AGAIN which i said no and they said they would cancel. THOUGHT that was good enough.. TWO emails? But nope. Today, April 8, 2016, I received an email from thrive that in FIVE days my free membership would end on MARCH 29 2016... TWO WEEKS AGO?!?!? and i just received that email today! I checked my email and of course I was charged and didn't notice! I emailed them again today wanting a full refund and to to cancel my membership for the THIRD TIME. Waiting for a response. I am embarrassed I recommended this website to my friends. I would never recommend this ever again. Horrible customer service who lie and say it's canceled. Everyone that wants to cancel your account.. CHECK YOUR BANK STATEMENTS!!!!

Misrepresentation

I ordered three small items from Thrive Market for the first time. It said first order free. Did not present any other offers or info on any further contact with them. I noticed money missing from my checking account to the tune of $59.95 and called my bank. They informed me it was a company named Thrive Market. At first we were going to shut down my card because we thought it was a fraud case of someone having my card.It was very upsetting to me and took two days to try to figure out what happened! I called Thrive and you get nowhere!!! Just prompts and never-ending music. Then I emailed them and they said I was enrolled in their market for a year for 59.95 and I said I never authorized or was even aware of their enrollment. Then they had the nerve to offer me a 29.95 for six month enrollment. I said I want my money back now. Called my bank and filed dispute. And called Better Business Bureau to report them. I order from other online companies and never have been scammed like this!! They are not honest in their initial presentation. Will never order again and am getting my money returned after many hours of frustration!!!!! This company knows they are charging people without first presenting the facts! Disgusting!!!!!!!!!!!

Thrive Market Member Services
April 28, 2016

Hi Lucille! Much like Costco, Netflix, or Sam's Club, we require a membership fee to have access to our wholesale prices. We offer a free 30-day trial for every new member at Thrive Market. The idea is to give you a chance to experience Thrive savings firsthand before you commit to an annual membership. Your free trial starts with your first Thrive purchase and will last a full month with full membership benefits. After the trial, if not cancelled, we charge the annual fee for our services, as noted in the policy on the checkout page as well as on our website: https://thrivemarket.com/how-it-works

You can contact membership services at 866-419-2174 (Monday-Saturday between 9am and 6pm PST) and they’d be happy to cancel and refund your unused membership as it is not our intention to keep anyone who is not interested in shopping with us, or feels they do not support our social mission and values.

Scam

I never even signed up? I bought from an internet ad for a sample and you pay the shipping. I never even made an account so I cant log into the site. They sent me several emails saying "Activate your 30 day trial" which I never did. Then I get an email saying my free trial is up and a charge $59.95? I cant reach anyone and the website I cant log in since I never made a account to begin with, Stay away. This is a shady practice Thrive.

Hi Candace,

We offer a free 30-day trial for every new member at Thrive Market. The idea is to give you a chance to experience Thrive savings firsthand before you commit to an annual membership. Your free trial starts with your first Thrive purchase and will last a full month with full membership benefits. If at any point during that time, you decide you don’t want to be a Thrive member, you can cancel. After the trial, if not cancelled, we charge the annual fee for our services, as noted in the policy on the checkout page.

We provide two easy ways to request to cancel: by phone at (866) 419-2174 or through our online service portal at thrivemarket.com/faq/index/cancellation/. Phone lines are open Monday-Saturday between 9am and 5pm PST.
