About Thrive Market
Thrive Market is an online retailer specializing in healthy and organic foods.  Similar to brick and mortar shopping clubs a membership to Thrive gets you access to discounts on carefully selected items.

The company was founded on the principle that eating healthy quality foods should not be difficult or expensive.  With the online marketplace they solve both issues by making the shopping experience convenient, and using the buying power of many to drive down costs.

When it comes to product selection Thrive focuses on partnering with the top brands serving a variety of health food niches.  Instead of overwhelming you with food options they hand pick the top products and focus on getting you the best price for them.

How Does it Work?

You can register for free and start browsing their selections.  First time shoppers get 15% off their first purchase.  When you do make your first purchase your free thirty day trial of the Thrive Marketplace will go into effect.

Once the trial is up you will be charged $59.95 annually for your continued use of the service.  This comes out to around $5 a month which they claim is offset by your average savings of 35% of retail costs.

All together they feature over 400 brands with 2,500+ premium foods, supplements, home, personal care, and beauty products.  You can easily narrow your search to feature products based on your dietary needs.  For instance you can sort by Paleo, Gluten Free, Raw, or Vegan.  You can also use over 90+ product filters for more specific needs like allergy restrictions, organic/gmo, and various other product standards.

Customer Service:

If you have any questions or would like to cancel your membership you can do so at any time by speaking to a customer representative.  They can be reached via their contact page at www.thrivemarket.com/faq?contactus, or by phone at (866) 419-2174.

Online Reviews/Complaints:

The website is still in Beta and customer reviews are slowly starting to come in.  Thrive does have the support of some popular Paleo bloggers such as Mark Sisson from Primal Blueprint.  They also have a growing fanbase on social media with over 4k facebook followers.

Competitors and Alternatives:

Specialty health food providers have embraced the internet as a great way to get their products out directly to the consumers.  You can find almost anything that you need for any diet online.  However using one dedicated online retailer gives you access to better savings and the convenience of one source; some other online Paleo retailers include Julian Bakery, Organic Prairie, and Vital Choice.

Coupons/Discounts:

Currently Thrive is offering first time shoppers 25% off their first purchase and free shipping on orders over $49.  Start your free trial today at Thrive Market.

If you are a member of Thrive Market or have checked out the free trial please review and rate your experience below.

Please File a complaint with CA Attorney General

https://oag.ca.gov/contact/consumer-complaint-against-business-or-company

This is still going on - here are excerpts of my three attempts to avoid a $59.95 membership fee. I finally had to file a complaint with the California AG's office to get it in writing that my membership has been cancelled. I also called my credit card company to have Thrive Market blocked and of course will check each credit card statement carefully.

2. Start your trial
With your first purchase on Thrive, you’ll start a free 30-day membership trial. See how much you save. Cancel any time.

Attempt #1 to cancel an automatic renewal of membership
July 18 – I submitted a request via the website to cancel my membership
July 18 – received this response from Thrive Market (excerpt)
I’d be happy to extend your free trial for an additional month if you would like more time to see all the exciting new products and deals that we have in store. This change is already reflected on your account.
However, if you’d prefer not to take advantage of this offer, please reply to this email.

Attempt #2 to cancel an automatic renewal of membership
July 19 – I email again confirming that I do not want an additional month and that my decision is to cancel the membership.
July 20 – I receive this email from Thrive Market (excerpt)
Before you go, we’d like to make you just one more very special offer: the price of $29.95 for the ENTIRE YEAR as an alternative. This discounted membership will allow you the same access to savings at half the price. This change is already reflected on your account.
However, if you’d prefer not to take advantage of this offer and discontinue your membership, please reply to this email and I will make that adjustment right away.

Attempt #3 to cancel an automatic renewal of membership
July 20 – I email the following:
If Thrive Market does not immediately confirm in writing that my membership is cancelled I will file a formal complaint with my state Attorney General's Office. My previous requests have not been honored, and Thrive is not following its own policy that states I can cancel anytime. Instead I am instructed again to please reply if I really want to cancel.
Enough!

Same as everyone else here. Awful company

I looked up a product on google search. Thrive came up as the most inexpensive option so I clicked on it and ordered that way. No where did I see anything about being signed up for a membership. 30 days later I was charged $59.95. My original purchase was $7 and I had NO idea I would be charged this additional amount. I called and the lady assured me I would be canceled from their membership but if I ever order from them again I would be charged the fee again and it would be non refundable as I would then be "taking advantage of their membership". I said I wanted to cancel and be reimbursed and this was not approved. She said "we try to make it as transparent as we possibly can. It's only $5/month and it is very much like Sams club or other membership based companies" Yea, except Sams club stops you at the door and says you cant purchase from us unless you have a membership. Not allow you to buy a $7 item then charge you $60 out of the blue the following month. Dishonest. If they actually made it CLEAR that they were a membership based company and charge you the start up fee before you were allowed you place your first order, people would not have such a bitter taste in their mouth about this SCAM of a company. Poor tactic. Good luck with that

Terrible

Tried multiple times to cancel my membership, after many emails, setting changes, and phone calls. my credit card was charged. Now I try to buy from there to make up for the charge they cost me. Even when I spend OVER $59 they STILL charge me shipping (when they promise on their website free shipping on orders over $59).
I also get charged for 'FREE' gifts they promise.
Terrible company full of fraudulent, thieving individuals.

Scam operation

I tried one product the dark chocolate almond bar, terrible. They gave me a trial membership, something I did not particularly ask for or wanted.

I get an email a couple days ago saying my trial membership was ending. Today I get an email saying "Welcome to Thrive Market" and a billing of $59.95 which I will vigorously dispute.

I have emailed them back that I do not want or asked for a membership. I have not gotten a response but from reading other reviews on this site i may not have heard the last of them.

You can't get rid of them!

Signed up for a trial offer; ordered some organic food. Prices and delivery were OK, but I decided that ordering from them wasn't going to be good for me. So I wrote them to cancel my trial membership. I got an argument back from them!

I wrote back, telling them I was not interested, and again asking them to cancel my trial membership.

Today, they converted my trial membership into a regular membership, and charged my credit card!

There are numerous complaints about this and other issues on file with the BBB about this firm, and the firm is supposed to have fixed them. Obviously, they haven't.

I will be reversing the credit card charge as soon as it clears (it's in a pending state now).

Scam

i signed up for their trial and then immediatly cancelled. They continued to offer other deals but I said no until I simply stopped responding. Then two months later I got a credit card charge for 29.95. i have copies of my emails.
This is a total scam operation. On top of that their prices are ridiculous. My come on was a jar of almond butter that they said was worth $25. I saw the same brand and size at Target for $7

Do not purchase from them!!!

First of all, the product itself was great - but then again its not like they make it.
However, like many others have said, they are not trustworthy. I was not given any information concerning a membership when making my purchase. No where did it say anything about it! So it came as a surprise when one day money was overdraw from my bank account, a significant amount. I contacted my bank right away and it has been a month long mess since, and I even had to switch to a new card! It was a truly terrible feeling to know my money was taken from me like that without my permission. It was also very uncomfortable to see that they kept all my card information on my account, to me that is very invading, especially when I did not say they could keep it on file. I will NEVER purchase from this company again.

The worst service I've EVER had

Such a great concept, too bad the customer service is horrible. I called to see when my order was shipped, and it hadn't even been "picked yet" 48 hours later. I needed these products! So, I said to please cancel the order, and I was told "they can't"!! They can't cancel an order that hasn't even been processed yet? They said I can wait to get the order and then return it. What? I've never heard of a company doing this. And they take your money right away before they even process the order. I was on hold for about 45 minutes just to find all this out.
The customer service gal had to keep putting me on hold to find out answers from her supervisor. I asked to speak to the supervisor and was put on hold another 20 minutes. Still waiting.....sigh.....

We might have to break up...

When I first found out about Thrive Market, I rushed to try them out. I was instantly in love and ordered A LOT of products from them. I raved about how wonderful they were on my blog and how fast I received my orders, and all the free stuff you got.
However, I noticed their fast growth (maybe too fast for them) in their company because slowly, service has gotten worse.

My orders were getting slower and slower to come to me; the amount you had to spend to receive something free went up; and just like the reviewer ahead of me, I was told I would get a free product, only to be disappointed to not get it because they ran out (which made me mad because it was the only reason I ordered more).

I order less now (WAAAY less) and I'm going through a thing with them right now because one of their products opened during shipping-I haven't even heard back from them yet- and it's been two days.

This will probably be my last order and I will probably not renew unless they get their @#$% together.

Good luck if you try them!!

Thank you Thrive Market for getting the order of Coconut Oil shipped to me. I love it and think everyone should have this as a staple in their medicine cabinet. The only complaint I have is, although it is a sealed plastic bag, wrapped with multiple pieces of brown paper, the oil still leaked. Not only onto the box, but on top of my tablecloth where I had placed it upon bringing it into the house!!
. I am thinking probably check the merchandise for completely closed lids before shipping out to make this less of a possibility. Other than that, thank you!!!

scam

I was charged over $50 for a membership that I never agreed to. I ordered an item on special and they automatically charged me a membership fee. I tried to call to cancel and there is just a recording with no information on how to reach a live person. Going to the website is even worse! There is not anyway to contact someone regarding this. Terrible customer service! NEVER use this company!!!!

Be aware of aggressive and fraudulent business practices!

It blows my mind that a company that calls itself a "socially conscious online store" operates in such an unethical manner. The way they handle their membership is downright fraudulent.

As with everyone here, after my trial membership was over, I notified them I did not want to get their annual membership. Then they sent me an email offering me something like $29.95 for six months membership. I was not interested and ignored their email, assuming that they would take that as "no". A few months later, we realized they had charged us for an annual membership. We were furious, but since it had been a few months, we decided to just use it and buy more items, making sure to change the setting to opt out of automatic renewal.

(Note that savings are not that great compared to other stores like Amazon. Thrive strangely shows an inflated "regular price" in their website and makes it look like you are saving more than you actually are.)

My membership expires next week and I noticed how they started sending me a lot of promotional emails that I can only use in July (after my membership expires).

I just received another email today, informing me that my membership expires and they were going to automatically renew my membership! What the hell? I wrote to them right away and told them not to renew.

They wrote back to me with an offer of $29.95 for six months membership. I wrote back again and said I refuse to deal with such unethical company and i did not want them to renew my membership.

They wrote to me again with another offer but this time $29.95 for entire year! It actually says I have to reply to their email if I want to decline (this is how they got me the first time). I wrote to them again and told them I do not wish to renew and they'd better not make me write back to them again.

I have never dealt with such an unethical, predatory company before, especially for someone who claims to be socially conscious. Do they even know what it means to be "socially conscious"?

There are health practitioners I follow who sponsor Thrive Market and I plan to write to them. If they continue to promote them, I will stop following them.

See how many BBB complaints they had (link below)

Rather than confirming that my membership will not be automatically renewed, they have now cancelled my membership prematurely without providing any refund.

Deb
June 20, 2016

I replied to those emails politely saying no, then weeks later was charged. I have received 3 emails thanking me for joining, 3 times? What? I cancelled not joined! Seems every time I reply to an email to cancel they set me up as joining again! Personally I am reporting to BBB and also contacting my credit card company who will immediately reverse the charge back to me pending review. I of course will win. Giving them the benefit of doubt, I already posted a review on BBB but did not file the complaint, yet. That was dumb on my part I should have just made it a complaint the first time.

Hi this was very helpful but could you tell me how you changed the settings so that your membership wasn't automatically renewed thanks

June 24, 2016

Hello,

I think you have to go to "My account - settings - membership", I can't tell for sure as my membership has been cancelled now and all I see is a "renew" option.

Even if you end up changing your setting, please do not count on it as they still tried to renew my membership automatically.

There are already complaints at BBB.org
You can write a review there as well as file a complaint.
You can call your credit card company and they usually immediately reverse the charges pending a review.

Jan, The name that shows up is "Thrive Market". The phone number shows up with the billing transaction, but just in case it doesn't, its 1-866-419-2174 I just fell for the scam and today I called to cancel. I was assured my account would be canceled and I would be reimbursed the $59.95 within 3 to 5 business days. ...We'll see how that works after reading all these reviews. :-\
