About Thrive Market
Thrive Market is an online retailer specializing in healthy and organic foods.  Similar to brick and mortar shopping clubs a membership to Thrive gets you access to discounts on carefully selected items.

The company was founded on the principle that eating healthy quality foods should not be difficult or expensive.  With the online marketplace they solve both issues by making the shopping experience convenient, and using the buying power of many to drive down costs.

When it comes to product selection Thrive focuses on partnering with the top brands serving a variety of health food niches.  Instead of overwhelming you with food options they hand pick the top products and focus on getting you the best price for them.

How Does it Work?

You can register for free and start browsing their selections.  First time shoppers get 15% off their first purchase.  When you do make your first purchase your free thirty day trial of the Thrive Marketplace will go into effect.

Once the trial is up you will be charged $59.95 annually for your continued use of the service.  This comes out to around $5 a month which they claim is offset by your average savings of 35% of retail costs.

All together they feature over 400 brands with 2,500+ premium foods, supplements, home, personal care, and beauty products.  You can easily narrow your search to feature products based on your dietary needs.  For instance you can sort by Paleo, Gluten Free, Raw, or Vegan.  You can also use over 90+ product filters for more specific needs like allergy restrictions, organic/gmo, and various other product standards.

Customer Service:

If you have any questions or would like to cancel your membership you can do so at any time by speaking to a customer representative.  They can be reached via their contact page at www.thrivemarket.com/faq?contactus, or by phone at (866) 419-2174.

Online Reviews/Complaints:

The website is still in Beta and customer reviews are slowly starting to come in.  Thrive does have the support of some popular Paleo bloggers such as Mark Sisson from Primal Blueprint.  They also have a growing fanbase on social media with over 4k facebook followers.

Competitors and Alternatives:

Specialty health food providers have embraced the internet as a great way to get their products out directly to the consumers.  You can find almost anything that you need for any diet online.  However using one dedicated online retailer gives you access to better savings and the convenience of one source; some other online Paleo retailers include Julian Bakery, Organic Prairie, and Vital Choice.

Coupons/Discounts:

Currently Thrive is offering first time shoppers 25% off their first purchase and free shipping on orders over $49.  Start your free trial today at Thrive Market.

If you are a member of Thrive Market or have checked out the free trial please review and rate your experience below.

Can't cancel

I signed up for one month to try it but then wanted to cancel. You cannot cancel with Thrive. Rather than canceling promptly, they wrote back that they switched it to $29.95/month (pro tip for anyone who wants it but wants to save... threaten to cancel). I didn't see the email and assumed that they would actually cancel when requested. They have charged me $29.95/month going forward. I keep trying to cancel but with no luck. What a scam. Might be nice if you want it, but if you don't, be prepared to pay 3+ additional months while they decide if they will cancel your subscription.
Warning: *scam scam scam*

Thrive into oblivion

This is a deceitful company. They offer no customer service. Their phone number does not answer during posted business hours. Their website has no recourse. They exist to collect your credit card information for no value added and repeatedly charge you without option to cancel. Their prices are not better than sales at any retailer and the packaging they use is destructive to the environment. Total SCAM!! We are all better off if they thrive into oblivion.

Passive Assent Marketing

Near the end of my free trial, I decided not to pay to join Thrive Market. They were out of stock of many items that I wanted and the items they carry come in very small quantities. It just wasn't worth it.

I got an email from Thrive confirming my cancelation request. The same email offered my a six-month membership for half the annual fee if I would decide to stay. I did not respond to the email.

Much to my dismay, my credit card was charged for a 6-month membership and I received a welcome email. I hadn't noticed that the response to my cancelation request said that I would be enrolled in the six-month membership unless I responded to the email to again request a cancellation.

So, buyer beware. Don't assume that Thrive Market will honor your cancelation request just because you received an email from them telling you that they received your request.

Product had bugs in

I called cos one of my items had a broken seal and bugs had contaminated it, I had canceled my trial membership the day before, a representative said someone who could deal with the issue was in a meeting and would call me back, 3 hours later nothing. I called them back and after waiting a half hour was told because I cancelled my membership they couldnt replace the jar, cos it would activate my full membership. I asked for a supervisor who was there when I called, she conveniently was going to another meeting (maybe they need to learn how to deal with customer service, guess this isnt taught at their meetings), they said the dispute team would call me, I gave them a deadline otherwise this jar was going to my local consumer protection team...watch this space

inaccurate promises

I placed two $60+ orders within a week-ten days. The automated 15% discount was not applied to the third order. I contacted customer service and was given a code to enter for the savings. This was irritating due to the fact it should have been automatically applied. I canceled my free membership, then received an email that I could have the membership for $29.95 if I would continue. I declined and ask them to remove me from their automated emails. I in turn received a belligerent email informing me that if I ever ordered again, I would be automatically charged the annual fee, no questions asked. Yet, they regret my cancellation, lol!

Horrible customer support

Like many of the other complaints, mine is regarding the terrible "process" of attempting to cancel membership. I'm currently trying to do so, and have been charged after missing one of the email threads -- the charge happened AFTER I declined their updated special offer.

Any company that makes canceling this difficult only makes me believe they are doing their best to take advantage of people. That's not cool, and therefore I could never recommend their services to anyone.

Not Worth It

I was intrigued by the idea of getting a "free" jar of either mayo or peanut butter. So, I signed up and placed an order. A month later, I was charged the $59.95 for a membership.

It was easy to call and have it refunded, though they are only available 7am-4pm and half the time I got a message saying they missed my call. It was not fair that they charged you without any notifications or consent. Be sure to cancel your account immediately! It stores your credit card so it is easy to get charged unknowingly.

If you like the service and want the annual membership, STILL CALL! They offered half price membership to try to keep me. However, by that point all I wanted was out.

Terrible customer service

I placed quite a large order with Thrive and although I was not unhappy with the products, I decided the membership did not warrant the small savings I realized on these products considering I am an Amazon Prime member.

I honestly forgot that ti was one of those free membership deals until the charge came through on my AMEX. I immediately went to the Thrive website to try to cancel the membership, but there is no feature to cancel, you have to speak to a customer service agent.

I called, waited the obligatory time to speak to someone live, and then the fun began. He could get the simple spelling of my name, Deborah. He kept typing in 'EEBORAH'. Not sure who has that name, but not me! Then he kept telling me the system was slow, and I had to wait over 20 minutes for him to get back int the system which was probably intentional since they are hoping I would lose patience and change my mind about canceling the membership. Once he got back into the system he then tried all types of sales techniques to keep me as a customer including offering the same membership for half the price!

At this point, I was completely frustrated, annoyed and wouldn't take membership from this company if it was free!

I had the exact same experience. I went in for a purchase of a few items, wasn't sure what a "membership" involved assuming it meant monthly sales emails. Found a $59.95 charge on my account 1 month later & called my credit card company to dispute the charge. Also emailed Thrive to complain and got info that the info is on the payment page. Went on to make a purchase & didn't read the small print on final page of what the membership meant. Learned a great lesson about not buying from smaller websites other than major well known websites.

you can easily cancel before the trial period ends here: https://thrivemarket.com/faq/index/cancellation/

i did, and got an email offering me another month free. after that i decided to remain a member. i find enough items that i would pay more for in stores, so the $60/year is worth it to me.

as for shipping...i agree that faster would be better but i'm never in that much of a hurry for the items i order. i had one instance where i was waiting and waiting for an order—10+ days and it was still "processing"—so i emailed customer service. they got back to me quickly, apologized, confirmed i still wanted the order and gave me a 15% discount code for my next order. i was 100% satisfied.

ultimately, i would recommend Thrive Market to those who regularly use the items offered AND find that the prices are equal to or less than what they are currently paying.

my only complaint is the packaging. The items i order are always thoroughly packaged for protection during shipping...but i always feel bad for so much plastic/paper waste. i make a point of saving every plastic bag for reuse and as much as the packaging materials as I think i can reasonably use...but i wish there was a greener way to get the stuff to me.

okay, but dishonest

They often do promotions where if you spend a certain amount of money they will give you a free gift. I did that several times and it was great. The last time I did so, it showed the free item in my cart, even after ordering. When my order came however it wasn't there. When I contacted customer service they explained that it was out of stock. That's it. I asked for clarification, showing how it was in my receipt and everything, and they still let me know that they can just not give you the item if it runs out, not give you credit for that amount, nothing. This is so dishonest to me, since they put a large bar across the top showing if you spend a specific amount of money you will receive the item. Customer service also told me that it says until supplies run out, which I have yet to find anywhere. I would also think that if supplies run out that would mean before you order you would know. I'm bummed I bought a membership.

Shipping time has improved!

I've ordered 3 times so far over 2 years, this is my 3rd review on this site. I have always canceled the trial after ordering because I just don't order enough to justify paying $60/yr. I wish they would just charge or attach a $5 fee to each order instead of having a yearly fee. I'd gladly pay that to help their business out.

Each time ordering from them has been great...but the shipping takes 5-10 days. The most recent time it took 5 days. Last year it took 7 days & 10 days to arrive to me so the shipping has been improved!

I don't have any complaints about ThriveMarket, it's just that a yearly fee doesn't work for me as I'm not a monthly orderer. I order once or twice a year. I also live in Florida and it's too hot down here to order food and other items online most of the year as the heat can spoil anything which always limits what I can order. I wish someone would invent air-conditioned packages than perhaps I'd order more things online.

Watch out for the membership charge

I don't have anything against this companies food products, however I do have something against their business practices and shady membership practices with charging after 1 month.

If you ordered something for free and had it sent to your house and entered your credit card information, you will be Automatically signed up for membership 1 month following that "free" purchase and charged 60 dollars.

To be fair, I did call the customer service number and my call was taken within 5 minutes and I explain I did not want to be signed up and wanted a full refund. Since the charge took place 1 day prior to be doing this, they had no problem issuing the refund and cancelling my membership.

All good..... Except when I went to check my online banking.... it showed ANOTHER charge for 60 dollars. So I was charged 120 dollars in error, and they claimed the 2nd charge was a glitch in their system. I called back to the customer service line and they issued a 2nd refund.

All in all, just know that after 1 month of entering your credit card information on Thrive Market, you will be auto charged 60$ unless you call the customer service line and directly ask to cancel your membership. Lucky for me I don't need this money at the moment, but the inconvenience for others I am sure is unacceptable. Be aware of what your getting into.

I am having the same problem! I was charged for the one-year membership. I did order something and they charged me for the year. I cannot even delete my credit card information and I cannot change my membership. I feel like this is a life-time commitment. It does seem crooked what they are doing. I emailed yesterday with no response.

When I sign up for these trial memberships I ALWAYS note on my calendar an day or two before the trial expires so I remember to cancel it. I did this for Thrive and EASILY cancelled it on their website: https://thrivemarket.com/faq/index/cancellation/

People have to take a little responsibility in these situations. It's clear that the charge will appear after the 30-day trial ends. It's not the company's fault when you neglect to cancel it.

Julie
June 03, 2016

Canceling is not as easy as clicking on that link. I submitted my request to cancel well before the trial period ended and received an email asking if I was sure and offering me a half year membership for $29.95. I replied to that email with a polite no thank you, stating "I still wish to cancel." I received a reply back that said my account had been updated. Fast forward about 2 weeks and I receive a "Welcome to Thrive Market" email stating that I've been charged the $29.95. I believe I have taken PLENTY of responsibility in this case. I did exactly what I needed to do (and far more than most other companies would have expected) so I think Thrive Market is clearly the one at fault here. Say what you will, but their practices seem a bit shady. I have since emailed the company with the orginal email thread as proof of my intent to cancel and the timeliness with which I did so and am waiting for my account to be refunded. I am prepared to contact my credit card company and even the Better Business Bureau if the situation is not resolved in a timely manner.

Same thing happened to me! I replied to those emails politely saying no, then weeks later was charged. I have received 3 emails thanking me for joining, 3 times? What? I cancelled not joined! Seems every time I reply to an email to cancel they set me up as joining again! Personally I am reporting to BBB and also contacting my credit card company who will immediately reverse the charge back to me pending review. I of course will win. Giving them the benefit of doubt, I already posted a review on BBB but did not file the complaint, yet. That was dumb on my part I should have just made it a complaint the first time.

I have used them more than once had great results.

I have ordered about 5 times and each and every time I get exactly what I ordered, safe and sound very well package to protect your products. I have seen some reviews that weren't good. I say try them and give them a chance to prove their willingness to provide great service to you also.

They seem to give me a free gift each time I order. How about that.

I really wanted to like it.

As a family we do our best to purchase everything organic/natural. So we decided to give Thrive Market try back in fall. I like the products offered but the customer services absolutely lacks.
Since January we had multiple issues with out orders, either shipping out delayed or coming damaged. For those considering the membership, I would caution you that you might not get your items on time. This ends up being waste of money as we end up having to buy our food/household items in regular store anyway.

Why y'all commenters so mad

The comments here are disheartening. I haven't even tried Thrive (yet) but I've been considering for months. Everyone here is complaining about a membership fee and cancelation process. I can't help but wonder if these commenters have Costco memberships, and ever tried to cancel. I've tried to cancel/delete free profiles to websites, Facebook for example, and it's literally impossible. So to learn that it's not super easy to cancel a membership from a newish business, whom may not be as fully staffed as a superstore like Costco, isn't actually surprising. What is surprising are the complaints about it.

I'm a writer. If I offered a free trial of my book and it was returned it within 30 days, guess who got my product for free and guess who doesn't earn a living? I am not surprised that Thrive Market offers promotions to keep their customers; WHY shouldn't a business want to keep their customers?

Newsflash people, a business cannot stay in business if they have no profit. It costs money to keep the lights on, let alone pay employees. I've seen examples of prices, and I KNOW what I pay for coconut oil in retail stores, so the prices seem very low. If prices are that low, where's their profit margin? Which, without profit a business cannot stay in business. If everyone canceled their subscriptions after the 30 day trial, guess who got a product for free and guess who doesn't earn a living?

To break it down a little more simply: would you work a new job for free 30 days, so the employer could try you out? Would anyone work a minute of their time and agree to not be paid? Nah, not unless you're signing up for a volunteer gig. I'm always amazed at the lack of business knowledge people have. You want to earn a paycheck at the end of your work week, so do businesses. Why is that so hard to understand?

Anyway, pardon my rant. These negative commenters actually make me want to try Thrive more. There is no scam to membership fees nor is it a scam to try to keep your customers. The scam here is people wanting everything for free.

It's a scam MK. First, you need to look at how they are funded. Which I suggest you do as the aren't relying on solely on memberships and product sales to grow their business right now. Also, they ship trial sized items and market them like they are full sized items. The also inflate the perceived MSRP of products to show steeper discounts on "thrive savings" where you can go to most grocery stores or other retailers and clearly see the true prices which end up being cheaper than Thrive Market prices anyways. Lastly, you can walk into a Costco and cancel no problems. Once you try to contact Thrive you will understand most of these comments and reviews.

You should also look at other reviews online and mentions on how they treat their warehouse workers.

This company is practicing unethical business tactics and will probably be in trouble with Department of Consumer Affairs shortly. Comparing them to Costco is like comparing a domesticated house dog to a wolf!

MK, I have been concidering purchasing from this market for about a year now, but just haven't done so yet. What you are saying makes perfect since to me. I pay for a Sams membership annually and only use it twice a year. So, for them to charge 59 dollars a year is the same as paying for a Sams, Costco or BJ,s membership. The best thing is you pick your Items and they ship them to your front door. I look at the 59 dollars as a convience charge for NOT going out going from store to store looking for the best. It is saving time energy and the cost of gas to get there. If

I've had nothing but good experiences with Thrive. I cancelled after my first 30-day trial easily here: https://thrivemarket.com/faq/index/cancellation/

After I cancelled they offered me a second month free (I knew they would, so I took advantage a little!). After that I ponied up the $59.95. I order at least once a month and only buy things I know I pay more for in my local stores. I agree with Rae Anne...it's so convenient. I also plan ahead, so I don't mind the 5-8 day wait.

Love Thrive

Never have had a problem of any kind. Love the convenience and always arrives within 6 to 8 days.

Please don't fall prey to Thrive
December 02, 2016

There's absolutely nothing wrong with a company charging a membership fee - as long as they are upfront about it.

At Sam's Club, you cannot purchase an item without enrolling as a member and paying their fee.

Thrive Market is constantly offering "freebies" (just check out their Facebook page) without making it clear that they enroll people in an annual membership. Oh, and they won't charge that membership until a month later AND sneak the fact that you're agreeing to the membership into their fine print that pops up on the very last page of your transaction.

No one is mad that Thrive charges a membership fee. They are mad that Thrive is dishonest about it.

Everyone's main complaint seems to be about being charged the membership fee. You can prevent this from happening by...

1. Using a pre-paid visa/master/amex card.
2. Changing your credit card info in your account when logged in (after your items arrived) to a fake generated credit card number.

Doing one of those things will prevent you from getting charged.

I tried that too, but the form had an incorrect email address for me on it, and I could not change it. I told them my correct email address in the message section, but they still did not reply.

I phoned them and was told they had replied, but it went to the incorrect email address, and the reply was to urge me to accept a membership at a reduced fee. I called twice more to talk to an agent about cancellation, and I asked finally for a confirming email saying my membership was cancelled. They did send it to me. I am waiting to see if they will charge my card after all.

Their products aren't bad, but they create huge amounts of ill will by trying to trap you into paying for a membership. It's a stupid practice and must have been conceived by a non-business person. Reputation is everything in a business, and scamming people will NOT get you a loyal customer base!
