About Thrive Market
Thrive Market is an online retailer specializing in healthy and organic foods.  Similar to brick and mortar shopping clubs a membership to Thrive gets you access to discounts on carefully selected items.

The company was founded on the principle that eating healthy quality foods should not be difficult or expensive.  With the online marketplace they solve both issues by making the shopping experience convenient, and using the buying power of many to drive down costs.

When it comes to product selection Thrive focuses on partnering with the top brands serving a variety of health food niches.  Instead of overwhelming you with food options they hand pick the top products and focus on getting you the best price for them.

How Does it Work?

You can register for free and start browsing their selections.  First time shoppers get 15% off their first purchase.  When you do make your first purchase your free thirty day trial of the Thrive Marketplace will go into effect.

Once the trial is up you will be charged $59.95 annually for your continued use of the service.  This comes out to around $5 a month which they claim is offset by your average savings of 35% of retail costs.

All together they feature over 400 brands with 2,500+ premium foods, supplements, home, personal care, and beauty products.  You can easily narrow your search to feature products based on your dietary needs.  For instance you can sort by Paleo, Gluten Free, Raw, or Vegan.  You can also use over 90+ product filters for more specific needs like allergy restrictions, organic/gmo, and various other product standards.

Customer Service:

If you have any questions or would like to cancel your membership you can do so at any time by speaking to a customer representative.  They can be reached via their contact page at www.thrivemarket.com/faq?contactus, or by phone at (866) 419-2174.

Online Reviews/Complaints:

The website is still in Beta and customer reviews are slowly starting to come in.  Thrive does have the support of some popular Paleo bloggers such as Mark Sisson from Primal Blueprint.  They also have a growing fanbase on social media with over 4k facebook followers.

Competitors and Alternatives:

Specialty health food providers have embraced the internet as a great way to get their products out directly to the consumers.  You can find almost anything that you need for any diet online.  However using one dedicated online retailer gives you access to better savings and the convenience of one source; some other online Paleo retailers include Julian Bakery, Organic Prairie, and Vital Choice.

Coupons/Discounts:

Currently Thrive is offering first time shoppers 25% off their first purchase and free shipping on orders over $49.  Start your free trial today at Thrive Market.

If you are a member of Thrive Market or have checked out the free trial please review and rate your experience below.

Bad Decision Relying on for Groceries

I guess you can't actually expect to receive a package from anyone who isn't Amazon in 3 days or less but wow, at least don't claim to if you're not going to even make it in a week... I budgeted most of my food money to try this service out and I've been waiting empty handed and hungry since I placed the order. It's been 8 days and they say it's going to take 3 more but I'm sure it will be more than that. You would hope their customer service could at least provide an explanation or compensation for leaving a customer empty handed for much longer than expected..

And why do you give out the same 10% off coupon twice to try and resolve the issue of my food not being here? How is that going to make anyone feel better? It's a joke, I don't need your skimpy coupon because I am never giving you money again. Terrible customer service and shipping times; please don't charge me for a membership fee because I am dropping out immediately from the trial since I read that some people say they were charged even after cancelling.

I don't even have to receive the food to review this company because the company doesn't make the food, the company's job is to send me the food in set number of days and they have horribly failed at it. Wouldn't suggest to anyone ever, definitely better off just using your legs and guarantee that the food you pay for will be at your house. Good luck with taking a lot of other people's money only to frustrate them.

So far, so good...

I read all of the reviews on all of the sites, and decided to order anyway. Thrive has a lot of items that I buy regularly and most are much cheaper than other options. Some are not, but I just don't buy those! I saved so much on my first order, that I figure my subscription will be paid for on my second, and with just a couple more orders per year, I'll save a lot of money overall on things I would buy anyway. I ordered on Thursday, it shipped on Friday (I got an email notification) and was delivered the following Tuesday. No damage, nothing missing. Four stars instead of five, because it's only one order, we'll see how they do on the next.

Awful and dishonest.

Don't depend at all on the pictures on the site for identifying what they send you. Read the descriptions carefully. If they send you something that was misrepresented on their site, don't bother trying to talk to customer service. They will essentially call you a dumb*ss and tell you that you should have read more carefully. Also I don't know who sells a box of Kind bars for 20$ (what they claim they go for)... or 17$ as they sell them. They're 14$ on amazon and 15$ at my local grocery store. What a scam. Stay awayyy

I keep trying to reach ThIve to cancel my membership
It's a very dishonest way to lure people with a free sample of coconut oil
and then charge on my card $59.95 without a notification
I want to cancel this membership, I WANT. MY REFUND asap
My time is very valuable, have some respect
Very unsatisfactory experience

Hey Maria, I did the same exact thing! Ordered my free sample of coconut oil and next thing you know, $59.95 is taken out of my account a month later! I was infuriated! I actually called yesterday and was really upset because I wanted my refund. The customer rep I had was really nice though and gave me my refund right away (her name was Gina!), no questions asked. Upset with the way they lure "members" in, but I was satisfied with the customer service. Maybe I just got lucky though.

Great for Rural Customers

I have completed three orders with Thrive in the past four months. So far I am loving it. I live in a very rural area. The closest Kroger is 20 minutes away. I do my weekly shoping there, but I have been doing an order with Thrive once a month for a lot of shelf stable items I know I will be buying over and over again. Thrive has allowed me to purchase better quality products at the same price I would purchase conventional products at Kroger. I like that I can have an ongoing cart. Just because I leave the site, the cart does not empty. I add items to the cart throughout the month and order when it hits $49 or more so I can take advantage of the free shipping.

It's not quite for me but...

I personally can't find a use for a membership but Idid try to offer my membership to my mom as she may use some of the products. I called customer service to cancel and got nothing but courtesy and respect. She did try to retain mymy business, but I shop locally. My experience was pleasant. I will definitely recommend this site to my family, friends, coworkers, anyone who will listen. The concept is amazing and the discounts are fair.

Wonderful

Honestly I've called customer service a few time with my first order.
I didn't get through my first time in order to change my address, so I did it online. TIP: stay on the line!

I was a bit bummed it took so long to get my order, but hey... Free shipping & discount prices.

I forgot to cancel my trial membership and simply gave them a call when I was charged. They offered me a discount which I said I didn't want due to my student status-poor. She gave me the info to apply for throve gives which was unexpected. There was absolutely no hassling which I loved.

For a company that uses the free trial idea, it isn't a scam it a smart. But the fact that customer service was so kind and went above and beyond makes me want to keep shopping here.

Thank you Thrive. Seems like a well rounded business.

Questionable Business Practice

I decided to cancel a week befor my trial period ended. I used the link provided under Thrive FAQs. The first time I was asked if I wanted the trial to be extended. I said no, whereby I got a message that their customer service rep would contact me within 24-48 hours. The next time I tried canceling, I got a message that I had already requested the cancellation, and someone would be contacting me. This went on until I saw the welcome email and a $59.95 charge on my bank statement when the trial period officially ended! I've contacted my bank to dispute the charge. Oh, and don't try calling the number the Thrive provides. It's an impossibly long wait.

This is exactly what happened to me!!!! I'm pissed. I just checked my account to see that I was charged even though I cancelled my trial weeks ago realizing that the products and services were above my budget. I don't check my account that frequently so it's now been a week since they charged me even though I tried to cancel and never received a call! I keep trying to call and haven't been getting through. I'm fed up.

I purchased from this site on my trial period and decided to cancel a couple of days later. Yet, I was still charged for my products and an additional charge of $59.95. I'm really upset as to why this has happened. Didn't save me money at all on soap. I paid $90 for 3 bottles of soap at this point. Thanks. Oh and I haven't even gotten the product!!

Poor, Poor, Poor customer service

At first I was thrilled with the idea and the products, but the customer service is horrible. I learned after I placed my order for less that $49 that I could have gotten free shipping if I had ordered $49. I called to see if I could get my shipping refunded or add a couple items to the order. The young woman who answered could have been hung over or high because she was almost inarticulate. After about 10 minutes she did give me a voucher for the amount of the shipping on my next order.

Ok I thought...I can live with that. First I got my sugar in one box, then almost a week later I get the almost all the rest but missing one item, however the packing slip says it was shipped. Called and got the line that they would include it in my next order because they didn't ship individual items. I said if they didn't send it out ASAP there wouldn't be a next order so they did. The shipment got destroyed in shipping and when I called they said the would refund the cost - but I only got a partial refund for item.

I HAVEN'T HAD THIS POOR OF SERVICE FROM ANYONE IN THE LAST 30 YEARS. I WON'T ORDER FROM THEM AGAIN THAT'S FOR SURE.

Worth the Membership Fees

I read the negative feedback before going through the free trial month.
My initial order arrived in a timely fashion- complete and well-packaged.

During the free trial period, I compared prices, going to several grocery stores, health food stores, Whole Foods, etc. And I could not have saved the same amount of money even if I bought at the cheapest prices.

One of the negatives I was the most concerned about was expiration dates on consumables. I am no longer concerned. The dates on the Thrive product are several months out...in fact, the dates on the consumables in area stores are sooner than the products from Thrive!

The items I have purchased at Thrive would take me multiple stores and a few hours of driving to obtain. With Thrive, my order is placed in minutes and arrives at my home within 5 days and I am saving money!
I am loving my Thrive Market membership.

What state do you live in? See I did the same, I compared prices of all the products I buy and I always found them cheaper or the same price at kroger (and I don't have to pay for shipment there) I read many reviews and I wondered why I found all the same products with the same brand at my local kroger. Many things were actually cheaper at kroger, like significantly cheaper. I think it's because I live in Texas and Texas is know to be a cheap state. Maybe it has to do with all the farms in Texas. I live in the middle of the city of Houston but I drive 30min to a farm to get super cheap organic vegetables and fruit.

Heather
October 10, 2015

See, I live in WV and I also find Thrive to be amazing and cheaper. You don't pay shipping if you spend over $49. Like Seaglassfan, it also saves me from having to drive around which saves me gas money. I find unique things on their website that I wouldn't usually find in my local stores. If you live in an area where you're already surrounded by health food stores like Whole Foods and etc. then I can see how this site would not be for some people. I honestly don't get these negative reviews because I've ordered from them four times now and I've not had one problem.

November 10, 2015

Heather, I live in very rural MN. Miles from anywhere, so I'm looking for a consistent and predictable online organic/non gmo grocer. Im hoping the good out weighs the bad here. But the negative is hard to ignore??

Carrie
November 17, 2015

Kiwi, I sense that a lot of the negatives are concerning the membership fee. Once you accept that it is there, and realize the good prices and free shipping (just make sure to order $49 worth) will make up for the fee in good time (rate depending on how much you order), then go ahead and join! I have had no problems! If you don't shop that much, then don't join--I didn't join Sam's club until it was worth my while.......

Impossible to get through to customer care

I accidentally forgot to cancel my trial membership after receiving a free sample of coconut oil, which, okay sure, my bad. I was charged $60 out of nowhere for a subscription. I contacted customer care via email, twice before anyone responded. The representative told me that they would be happy to refund me and offered me a cheaper subscription. I declined and stated that I would just like my subscription canceled and my refund. That was about 3 weeks ago. Nobody has responded since. I emailed again today, and will be calling if I don't get a reply within 24-48 hours like the website promises. Terrible customer service. The only good thing I got out of this was some free coconut oil -_- I'm sure their products are lovely but I do not have this kind of money. I hate that companies are always renewing your membership without emailing you about it or anything. It needs to change. Send me a "your membership is about to expire!" email or something, for god's sake.

I actually don't like the website because I found way cheaper prices at my local Kroger BUT!! They do say that you will be charged $60 for membership after a certain amount of days. To be honest I wouldn't refund you a penny because you read and were aware of the terms. They don't write it in tiny letters or anything, it says it right there when you're paying for your free coconut oil.

I too have had no luck with their customer service. I have tried calling their number and get a disconnect every time.
This company is also out of stock on far too many popular items. I was automatically charged a yearly fee and I want my money returned.

Hi Samantha!

We would never intentionally charge a customer for an unwanted membership, and always grant refunds in the case that they are unwanted and unused.

We also send notification prior to the charge date and confirmation upon payment, cancellation, and refunds. More often than not the email a customer enters has a small typo or is an inactive account which hinders correspondence.

Please reach out if you were unable to have your charges resolved! We will be happy to take care of this for you:

I love it

I have been very happy with Thrive. I placed my first order a couple of months ago during my trial membership. I just placed my second order today. I think the subscription price is worth the savings. I will probably only order 5 or 6 times a year, because I tend to stock up on all of my non-perishables at the same time, plus when you spend $49 it's free shipping.

I emailed, not to complain or cancel, but to let them know how happy I was with shipping. I want to say I received my boxes about 5 days after I placed my order last time, which wasn't bad. I was so happy with how they wrapped everything though. I ordered chocolate (not the best idea...I was ordering during the summer in Arizona), when the box came the chocolate was wrapped in disposable ice packs and extra padding. Nothing melted, nothing leaked. Anyway, even my positive feedback email took a couple weeks before anyone responded. I think they could probably use more people working on customer service. I didn't expect a response email, so it didn't bother me, but I would imagine if you had a problem it would be frustrating.

The prices are great! I also really like the selection. I think the prices are comparable with sale prices at Sprouts -- which are really good. There are items I've seen at Thrive that I've never seen at Sprouts, and it's nice to have the product reviews when shopping for new items.

If you tend to buy more natural pantry items and bath/body products, it's worth it.

Scammy company

I was so excited about Thrive---at first. Then I signed up for the trial membership. Everything went downhill after that. Products arrived leaking into box. I tried to make a change to the order just seconds after I submitted it and, unlike Amazon, or other companies, there was no way to do that. Efforts to email them failed, because they take at least a week to get back to you and by that time their response was, "It's too late to change your order." Well, yes, I agree. I tried to change it within a minute after I submitted it. As a result, I lost the "free shipping" option, so ended up eating the shipping cost. I asked to cancel the trial membership and they tried to talk me into 10% off and then 20% off, etc., my next order. I said no. I finally got someone to say she'd cancelled my trial membership, but I will be watching my credit card like a hawk since I don't trust them not to start billing me. The impossibility of ever reaching a real human (by phone or by email) should raise red flags. Thanks to all of you who have "told the truth" about Thrive. Lousy service! It's not worth any potential savings for all the trouble and heartache you'll have. And their prices aren't all that great anyway.

UNDISCLOSED Origin of Product -- China

How upset would you be if you purchased edible seeds and the website did not disclose that they were grown in China??.....and the company said they have no obligation to disclose that to their customers.......and it's supposed to be a health conscious, ethical company?

Thrive Market is that company. I purchased 3 bags of "Woodstock Organic Pumpkin Seeds" to use in my bread baking and nowhere on the product information page was it shown that these were a product of China.

Thrive Market just told me again that they did not believe that they were withholding important information and that they are refusing to refund my money. I even offered to send the offending seeds back to them.

Their customer service sucks and I've been in that business for 50 yrs. How many potential customers might this review reach and how many sales might they lose? I think it potentially could be much more than the

Been Using Thrive Market Since Nov and Loving It!

I have read all of the reviews on this website and I'm honestly thinking that someone must be very disgruntled and posting their opinion multiple times (like on Aug 25, 2015). There's no e-mail verification for each post so it's very easy for someone to do that.

Anyhow, I wanted to let everyone know that I have been using Thrive Market since Nov, 2015 and my family and I have been loving it. First of all, we have probably placed about 20 orders on the website and only once did we not receive 1 item in our order. I contacted customer service about it and, as it turned out, they actually caught the error while it was shipping to us and had already credited our credit card for the product that they forgot.

Otherwise we have been LOVING the savings. If you compare pricing on Thrive Market to other popular sites (Amazon, Vitacost, etc) then you'll see that 8 or 9 times out of 10 Thrive Market is cheaper and often significantly cheaper. Thrive Market keeps a total of the "savings" that you have earned via all of your orders (I wrote "savings" in quotes because I'm guessing that the savings off full retail and you probably won't pay full retail for whatever you buy) and I have already saved $1,000 over the past 10 months. Now, even if that's compared to full retail (which I am not even sure), I figure that I have easily saved $500 so far, which is a LOT higher than the $60 membership cost.

As for shipping times, in my experience Thrive Market ships out your order within 24-48 hours from when it is placed. Their warehouse is currently in California so if you live in or near California you will receive your order the next day. But if you live on the East Coast it will take a few days to arrive because they used Fedex Ground. BUT - the good news is that they are opening an East Coast warehouse in the coming weeks and I believe they will have 90% of everyone in the US covered with 1-2 day shipping after that opens (probably as of October).

Anyhow, I wanted to be sure that you had the perspective of a long-time Thrive Market customer to help balance out some of the suspicious posts below...

I hope this was helpful,
Jeremy

I'm sure the poster meant they've been using the service since November 2014. Simple typo.

This is what they do. When you ask for refund they tell you they processed it, but they didn't. Good luck to you

Same thing happened to me. THRIVE is NOT worth the $$ or the aggravation. Stay away. You're just as well to find these products at Whole Foods, Coscto, or even Target for many of them. And you won't pay shipping!

Horrendous experience STAY AWAY!!!!!!!!

Is this even a company? It takes so long for them to ship, when I tried to cancel my free trial membership, they just won't let me. It is so much hassle to to little thing with this company. I was charged for the membership and still got charged. I should've read reviews on this company and not bothered in the first place. They don't reply back, they don't pick up their phone. TOTAL SCAM!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Like many others, I tried a product, cancelled the trial membership and still was charged. This morning when I discovered it, I wrote them to reverse the charges. We'll see how they handle it. Very disappointed, and people like Mark Sisson, who I follow and respect tremendously, should take note about associating themselves with unprofessional organizations like this.

Worse than I could ever imagine

It is sad that some of my bloggers are willing to promote this scam of a company to make money. Every experience I have had with Thrive has been just terrible. First off, I was practically bullied into not canceling my membership with 'special offers and discounts' on the subscription. I gave in after they brought the price down to $29.99 per year thinking how bad could it be? It was bad. After becoming a member I was ignored. I received a box of totally damaged and melted chocolates and it took me 4 emails before customer service would respond saying that there was supposed to be an ice pack but the shipping department must of forgot to include this. They offered me a gift card for the chocolates which was nice. However, my next order took TEN days to arrive. International mail is quicker than this. They don't offer any expedited shipping options either. My third and now final order arrived after 11 days and included 4 of my 30 items ordered. This was over $110 and I got only 4 items. I emailed customer service but of course no response and everytime I called I was just put on hold until it disconnected me. After an hour of repeatedly calling I got through and was told a supervisor could certainly call me tomorrow and fix it. No one ever called me. They claim my order will arrive (been 12 days now) even though I have no tracking info. This is a SCAM

Idk about your order issues, but FYI being bullied is not what you've described. Thrive tried to keep your business, probably because a business can't stay in business without customers. Being bullied is being told you're a shit human being and the world would be better off without you. You were offered half off a membership fee, that's in no way "being bullied" and in fact it's a good business plan to offer promotions to customers. Just FYI, kids who commit suicide after years of being bullied probably would rather be told "hey save 50%" instead of the actual hurtful things that were said to them.

Language is powerful. Don't abuse it.
