About Thrive Market
Thrive Market is an online retailer specializing in healthy and organic foods.  Similar to brick and mortar shopping clubs a membership to Thrive gets you access to discounts on carefully selected items.

The company was founded on the principle that eating healthy quality foods should not be difficult or expensive.  With the online marketplace they solve both issues by making the shopping experience convenient, and using the buying power of many to drive down costs.

When it comes to product selection Thrive focuses on partnering with the top brands serving a variety of health food niches.  Instead of overwhelming you with food options they hand pick the top products and focus on getting you the best price for them.

How Does it Work?

You can register for free and start browsing their selections.  First time shoppers get 15% off their first purchase.  When you do make your first purchase your free thirty day trial of the Thrive Marketplace will go into effect.

Once the trial is up you will be charged $59.95 annually for your continued use of the service.  This comes out to around $5 a month which they claim is offset by your average savings of 35% of retail costs.

All together they feature over 400 brands with 2,500+ premium foods, supplements, home, personal care, and beauty products.  You can easily narrow your search to feature products based on your dietary needs.  For instance you can sort by Paleo, Gluten Free, Raw, or Vegan.  You can also use over 90+ product filters for more specific needs like allergy restrictions, organic/gmo, and various other product standards.

Customer Service:

If you have any questions or would like to cancel your membership you can do so at any time by speaking to a customer representative.  They can be reached via their contact page at www.thrivemarket.com/faq?contactus, or by phone at (866) 419-2174.

Online Reviews/Complaints:

The website is still in Beta and customer reviews are slowly starting to come in.  Thrive does have the support of some popular Paleo bloggers such as Mark Sisson from Primal Blueprint.  They also have a growing fanbase on social media with over 4k facebook followers.

Competitors and Alternatives:

Specialty health food providers have embraced the internet as a great way to get their products out directly to the consumers.  You can find almost anything that you need for any diet online.  However using one dedicated online retailer gives you access to better savings and the convenience of one source; some other online Paleo retailers include Julian Bakery, Organic Prairie, and Vital Choice.

Coupons/Discounts:

Currently Thrive is offering first time shoppers 25% off their first purchase and free shipping on orders over $49.  Start your free trial today at Thrive Market.

If you are a member of Thrive Market or have checked out the free trial please review and rate your experience below.

scam

i accepted their trial membership offer and placed an order. All went ok with the order but i decided not to go forward with the annual membership. They sent me an email reminder that i would billed for an annual membership if i didnot cancel within 2 weeks. I wrote them 5 times and tried calling (you cannot get a live person) but they never replied back. i do know they did receive my requests as i received back an automated reply saying we will get back to you in 24 hours. They never did. And to top it off they charged my cc.
This is a blatant scam.

Absolutely awful deceitful experience

I sent a request on their website to cancel my membership. It took it some link else where I confirmed I still want to cancel my membership. Then I received a long email talking about how I can still stay a customer, and a discount was offered. But I said I wanted to cancel! Several times!!!
2 weeks later my credit card was charged for membership.
Ok, now I call several times to cancel over phone. Nobody picks up. 5 minutes of waiting on the line and pre-recorded message tells "sorry we could not respond, try again". I call again, same result.
I sent message on their website. I received reply, sorry we no longer monitor this mailbox.

This is the worst company ever!!!

It's fine!

I signed up for the 30 day trial when I saw an ad for free coconut oil on Facebook. I haven't gotten the coconut oil yet (it should be delivered tomorrow) but I did decide to cancel the account because the price is too high for the savings to be worth it for me. I'm a college student, so I dont regularly purchase such high end foods as what is offered through Thrive. A customer service representative emailed me back after three days saying that my account has been cancelled, and also offering me half off a years membership, which is a fairly typical response from these subscription sites. All in all, even though the membership is not fitting for me personally, I am satisfied with their offers and customer service!

Saves me money!

Not only does Thrive Market save me money but it introduces me to products that I don't think to look for elsewhere. I always compare the prices of what I order to Amazon and my local grocery store that has a limited natural foods section. I do not live close to a Costco or Whole Foods but occasionally shop at those two stores when I go to visit my son. I do save money at Costco but am limited to what products are available. I also stop at Whole Foods when I visit my son and that is way more expensive.

My shipments have arrived in a decent amount of time and everything has been wrapped so well that nothing has broken.

I have been more than pleased with Thrive Market and feel the $59.95 annual membership ($5 per month) is well worth it to me. I always wait and place my order when it will be large enough for free shipping. I still look for bargains on Amazon and if I find items cheaper, I order through them.

Have I been scammed

I joined with the trial membership but haven't ordered anything other than the free coconut oil to try out.

Just logged in to cancel. I was asked why I am considering cancelling not that I am cancelling. Also said they would get back to me within a few days. I sure hope they contact me and I don't have to go to BBB about them.

Save money but bad customer service

There are a few staples that I save a ton of money on if I purchase on thrive market versus whole foods. Such as Bob's almond flour, children's garden of Eden chewable vitamins, and even fruit/veggie wash. We go through a lot of vitamins in our house. But a week ago, my third order arrived with a broken jar of honey, and the only email responses I get back from them (3 emails sent so far) is "we haven't forgotten about you!" and two copies of just what I had written to them. I will call tomorrow to try to get a replacement. I've probably already made back my membership fee in the three orders I've received, and I always order enough to get free shipping, so it's okay for me. But the hassle of trying to get a damaged item replaced is torture.

Loving it so far

I am disappointed to see negative reviews for Thrive Market when I think that they are doing so much good work for people who do not have healthy options nearby or who can't afford Whole Foods. Maybe some of the other people aren't used to shopping at health food stores, but the amount of money I have saved just from my first two orders far outweighs the cost of membership. I haven't tried to cancel so I cannot speak to that but I am grateful that Thrive exists and will be shopping ordering from them often. I will update if this changes!

Impossible to Contact

I decided to give the free trial membership a try because there were some products that I noticed were a lot less expensive than what I normally pay. I was also attracted to the steep discount they were offering for my first time order.

After placing my order I received no information beyond the confirmation that it had been received. A couple days later I found this to be odd so I went online to see if it had shipped. There was no tracking number provided but the order did indicate that it had been shipped. Three days later I still had not seen my order. I contacted customer service and requested a tracking number. It took them almost four whole days to get back to me via email with a tracking number (which never did appear on their website). The product finally arrived 13 days after I placed the order.

Upon receiving the box of product I discovered a mass amount of unnecessary packaging (so much for eco-friendly). Also this is my fault, because I did pay close attention to sizes listed on the website, but the "great deals" I thought I was getting were actually smaller sizes of product that I typically buy in the store. Not such a great savings. Immediately I called to cancel my membership and remove my credit card from their records. I got a voice service and left a message. I then went online and submitted a request to cancel.

Last week a charge showed up on my CC from Thrive for membership.I received no "warning" email or notification that they were going to charge my card. No thank you for my membership, nothing letting me know that I had just "purchased" a membership. I have called 4 times and left messages and called another 4 times during their normal business hours but did not leave a message. I cannot seem to get a live person if my life depended on it. I have sent two emails and one message through their website. They can update their Facebook page every hour but they do not respond to customers. I finally contacted my CC company to dispute the charge. I also left one final message stating that I will be contacting the California Secretary of State if I don't hear back from them tomorrow.

Five days is far too long to have to wait to get something like this resolved. It is obvious that MANY others have dealt with the same difficulties with this company. This company has poor customer service, does not respect customer requests and obviously does not recognize that time is just as valuable as 25% savings on their over packaged organic products.

I do feel I save $ as I have to follow a strict autoimmune paleo diet due to health problems BUT you are so right. They are impossible to contact about anything!!! I had a problem w an order and it wouldn't have been a big deal if they had responded promptly. By the time they did I was so irate! They needed up fixing and giving me a $25 gift card which shut me up. However it is happening again w my next order. Something arrived leaking and now an entire week has gone by. All I wanted was a replacement sent right away. Now I have to keep this sticky mess of a bottle on my counter because I do not know if they will want it as proof. I am fed up. Email after email call after call I sit on hold only to be hung up on by their phone system!

highly suspicious

I sent Thrive Market my email address at 9 p.m. By 9 a.m. next morning, I already had received three (3) emails from Thrive Market. I became suspicious when I discovered the only positive online reviews were from paid sponsors. With no evident way to evaluate prices prior to placing an order, and the many negative reviews from people who did order, I concluded this company is "gold digging" and should be shunned.

Review & Comparison

I placed my order on 7/23 and received my order today 7/30. It traveled from City of Commerce, CA area to the Ponte Vedra Beach, FL (coast to coast) area via FedEx Ground. I was worried some things would of been melted (energy bars I ordered) or over-heated, but everything arrived in great condition. They packed everything really well. None of the items were expired, dented, or damaged.

Here's a price comparison I made of how much I saved along with everything I ordered.

ThriveMarket: $132.04 (without any promo codes) | $89.03 (with 25% off first time order code & and extra $10 off for email referrals)
Image: http://i.imgur.com/6VicB0a.png

Vitacost: $165.24 (without any promo codes) | $155.24 (with $10 off promo code)
Image: http://i.imgur.com/3y21tjq.png

LuckyVitamins: $168.54 (without any promo codes) | $163.54 (with $5 off promo code) | $154.25 (when I subtract 1 Orgain pack to match what I ordered from Thrive)
Image: http://i.imgur.com/n90RzwI.png

SwansonVitamins: $170.24 (before promo codes) | $144.75 (with 15% off promo code) + $4.99 s/h = $149.74 (had to find similar items since they didn't have everything I ordered from Thrive)
Image: http://i.imgur.com/l1KO9yd.png

Amazon: $257.10 (without any promo codes) | $236.25 (with $5 off Orgain coupon, and subtracting 1 Orgain pack & 6 cans of beans to match what I ordered on Thrive) these prices also don't include additional shipping charges for items not sold directly through Amazon and taxes.
Image: http://i.imgur.com/q839ibb.png

Overall ThriveMarket still comes out on top even if I don't use a promo code. I saved $60+ on my first order (with promo codes). If I didn't use the promo codes I would of still saved about $20-25 compared to VitaCost/LuckyVitamins/SwansonVitamins and as much as $125 off Amazons absurd prices on some items. I also didn't have to pay tax which saved me even more!

I didn't go to my local Whole Foods to compare prices as I know they wouldn't have everything in stock, but I'm sure I saved $50+ off their prices & taxes.

As for the $60/yr fee, they also offer $30 for 6 months, and $20 for 3 months. Also if you live on the west coast your items will arrive more quickly. I was told by support they are opening up a warehouse in Indiana so east coast & midwest residents will get their items quicker starting in the fall which will make everything even better!

Thanks.

Great company, even better discounts!

I don't understand why there are so many negative reviews on Thrive Market. Nothing that they do is deceptive or a scam. They sell deeply discounted products which they offset via an annual subscription the same way Costco does. They sent me an email warning me that my free trial was coming to an end soon, so I would have had ample time to cancel if I wanted to. I gladly paid for the subscription, because after only 2 orders I made back my membership fee in savings, and now I've saved over $300 - and I've only been a member since March.

I love Thrive Market and have had nothing but positive experiences ordering from them!

Beware!

I got a $25 gift credit for Thrive Market when I purchased the dvd "BOUGHT" and thought I would try out the free trial. I made two orders and they arrived promptly but after weighing the savings I decided it was not worth the $59 member fee so I followed their instructions and canceled. They responded offering me a 6 month subscription and I said no thank you and they did it again but would not cancel my membership. I called and left numerous messages but nobody ever contacted me. They do not answer their phones...ever! Then I received a notice that I would be charged a member fee on the 24th so I called them again and again. I finally called my credit card company and told them to do a chargeback if Thrive Market tried to charge me for anything. Once again I called and left messages (at this point I'm pretty pissed) and finally I told them that my credit card company had flagged my account and if they didn't cancel my membership I would report them. They finally replied saying they had cancelled my account. Such BS for a business to put anybody through all that!!! I do not recommend them for any reason and hope that this review saves others from this kind of a hassle!

Don't fall for "free" trial

I was offered a "free" trial. But there is no way to cancel the membership except sending an email to the customer service, which as you can guess won't be replied back. Unless you absolutely 100% sure that this website is what you need, do not sign up!

Some items were actually cheaper than Amazon, Walmart, or target. But most of them were actually the same as my local stores (including our local organic store). I wouldn't go for it anyway.

NOT WHAT YOU THINK!

I placed and order about 3 months ago and yesterday a
charge of $59.95 showed up on my credit card without any
noticifation, after checking the internet, I found this has happened to many people, this is not clearly stated when you place your first order, when I called, no one answered.
I feel as if I have been scammed.
At this point, these products are available elsewhere, the cost may
be a $1.00 higher but at least I will be ordering them from a legitimate
retailer.

Disappointed
Tricky

Unauthorized membership fee was taken from my account of 60.00, causing me to overdraft. Took some time but finally someone answered the phone at Thrive. She tried to sell me a 3 month membership instead. I calmly said, I had no intention of buying a membership and didn't know that receiving the coconut oil would cost me 60.00 plus shipping. Seriously, can they legally purchase something from your credit card that you used for something like Shipping costs without prior approval? That means they stored my credit card information. That makes me mad and seems to be like stealing to me. They said they would refund my card...I will wait to see if this happens.

Anytime someone offers something for free or very little money and asks for your credit card, never get into it. It's always some subscription thing that is usually difficult to get out of and from what I'm reading here, it applies to this situation.

Poor Service and lost money

I placed an order with Thrive a month ago. It arrived at my post office in 10 days - damaged. I refused the box and asked the Post Master to send it back. I waited and waited for a credit but - now a month later - I still have no credit for this order. I emailed through their contact form and a lady called saying that I would have to PROVE that I refused the order. She said that a FED EX rep would have to accept the package back. Since I used a PO Box for my shipping address, there was no Fed Ex person there. I am trying to cancel the trial membership but have not received confirmation of this either. II tried to remove my credit card info from their site but there was no way to do this. Their prices are somewhat cheaper (not all) but by the time you pay the membership fee and put up with the hassle of their poor service, it is just not worth it to me. I would advise anyone asking to AVOID them.

Not so great

I came to Thrive Market by way of a promotion from Mark Sisson. Free coconut oil and a "gift box" valued at $25. Just pay for shipping. I got the package which consisted of a 15oz jar of coconut oil, a 1oz sample bag of tortilla chips, a sample pack of gummie vitamins (2), and two herbal teabags. The enclosed invoice said the package was worth $30.97. The coconut oil was past its best by date, and while I'm sure it is still good, I wouldn't buy something from a store if it was expired.
I sent an email to cancel - didn't even want to try the trial membership, and received a response asking why. I explained that I know that they sell this size coconut oil for $8.45 and it retails for around $12 and can get it from Amazon for that price, and also there was no way that the items I received were worth $25 or $30. I said I believed this promo was a means to get new members and off-load product that was past its best if used by date.
Apparently this wasn't sufficient grounds to cancel and I received a reply from another person saying the guaranteed the package was worth $25 and offered a 6-month membership for half the one year. At this point, although the offer was tempting, I knew I was being lied to and that pretty much seals this for me - no deal. I can get the things I want for similar prices, lowered free shipping cost, and no membership.

Mark Sisson, of Mark's Daily Apple, has been pushing Thrive Market pretty hard on his website. For what reason, I don't know. Maybe he has a stake in the company, or maybe he's just trying to help them get started. I do know that I've read enough horror stories regarding Thrive that I wouldn't even consider doing business with them, at least not at this time. Regardless of his reasons, I think Mark is hurting his own credibility by advertising for them.
