About Tastefully Plated
Tastefully Plated makes packaged, chef crafted meals using fresh ingredients that can be microwaved so customers can eat in minutes.

Products and Ingredients:

Tastefully Plated was founded by Elmer and Gina Whitcomb who have been in the food business since 1979. Their family business started with several restaurants and expanded to become one of the premier dining service providers in the country. Their mission is to enhance life one meal at a time.

Each meal is prepared by chefs who have a passion for making great food. They prepare the meals with strict quality assurance procedures and Good Manufacturing Practices. The Tastefully Plated culinary facility is USDA-inspected, FDA approved, SQF Level 3 (the highest level awarded), and NSF-certified.

The meals are beautifully arranged on the plate and packaged using state of the art vacuum-seal, steam-heat technology. The clear packaging allows you to see exactly what you are getting on your plate. Once you pull off the cardboard cap, you can heat the entire plate in your microwave. The seal is BPA-free and the packaging helps heat the food evenly. The meals can be stocked up in the fridge or freezer.

Online Reviews/Complaints:

A good majority of customers give Tastefully Plated positive online reviews on several of their flavors. They love the taste and find that the food is just like a home cooked meal. Some customers said the serving size is just right and love that the meals are low calorie, grain-free, dairy free, and gluten-free.

Some customers felt that the meal was expensive while others thought the labelling for the Tastefully Plated™ Sausage & Egg Scramble with Cauliflower Grits was misleading because there are non-paleo ingredients including modified food starch, corn, chicken base flavor, sugar, and canola oil.

Competitors and Alternatives:

Other companies that provide ready made Paleo meals include Pre-Made Paleo, Petes Paleo Meals, and The Good Kitchen.

Cute plate

I tried the braised beef, sweet potato baby food and broccoli. First observation was that the only reason this product even sells at all is the gimmick of the plate and showing people what it looks like before buying.

But the real art involved is the acres of real estate on that bevel edge box filler. When you take it out, that little square in the middle has less food in it than many frozen entrees half the size of this package. THIS is the new goal of all frozen entree manufacturers: to sell us a tiny little bit of food in a big mostly air filled box. The profits at $7 a plate would be astounding since there's only about $1 worth of food and another $1 worth of packaging.

Next, the tiny portions are almost inedible, due to the amount of pepper they used, which seems to be the only identifiable flavor. So you're gasping until you guzzle down some water. That's how you get filled up too.

Enjoy your novel plate of overpriced, not too great food. Next time buy a Hungry Man, or go get a burger somewhere.

Tasty but disappointed by some of the listed ingredients

I tried the the braised pork. My mom picked this up for me to try since my diet is really restricted right now and I work late so she thought these might be a handy meal to bring to work. Unfortunately, I’m quite sure this really shouldn’t be labeled Paleo. It has white potatoes, potato flour, dextrose and Maltodextrin? Hmmm. I ate it because I was curious and it was tasty but won’t buy it again since I’m trying to avoid wheat, corn, rice and soy products to give my body a rest and these meals contain ingredients I need to avoid. I know I know, I should be eating only completely homemade meals but I was sort of excited with the prospect that I might be able to give myself a break in the kitchen once in awhile. Oh well. Back to just the produce and meat departments at the store.
