About Fourth and Heart
Fourth & Heart is an artisanal food brand founded by Raquel Tavares Gunsagar and Lilly Wunschwith who are on a mission to modernize ancient pantry food staples with their line of grass-fed flavored ghee, a pure spreadable butter.

The company participates in many local events and brings attention to important causes in an effort to improve local and international communities through direct action and inspiring others.

Products and Ingredients:

Ghee is a type of clarified butter that is heated and reduced. It is a versatile product that is a one to one substitute to butter, olive, oil and coconut oil. It can be used from baking, stir frying, and spreading on toast. Fourth & Heart provides ghee in the following flavors: Original Ghee, White Truffle Salt, Madagascar Vanilla Bean, California Garlic, and Himalayan Pink Salt. The Madagascar Vanilla Bean is 100% Fair Trade Certified.

While butter is heated and reduced, milk solids will both float to the top and sink to the bottom. When the milk solids are then triple-filtered out, what you’re left with is the pure healthy fat. These milks solids are burned or caramelized, developing a nutty flavor to the ghee.

Because ghee is lactose-free and dairy-free, it is great for people who have a Paleo diet as well as those who are lactose intolerant. It has similar benefits to coconut or olive oil, but it is better for cooking because it has a high smoking point at 450 to 480 degrees compared to 280 degrees for olive oil, which turns into a trans-fatty acid if it is overheated.

Raquel sourced every ingredient herself and selected the purest, finest ingredients she could find. The butter comes from New Zealand which has very strict daily regulations and produces the highest quality butter. The ghee is made from 100% grass-fed butter from co-operative farms and contains high levels of Vitamins A, D, and E as well as Omega 3 and Omega 6 fatty acid ratio.

Ghee is also high in conjugated linoleic acid (CLA) which has been known to reduce body fat and increase muscle strength. It is also rich in Butyric Acid which helps people digest foods and helps the body integrate other nutrients when they are eaten together. Herbs are often mixed with ghee to be more easily absorbed by the body.

The ghee will last 6 to 9 months and there is no need to refrigerate it. It will last longer if you don’t use dirty spoons or spill crumbs in the jar. One jar can last awhile because you only need one teaspoon at a time.

In addition to the variety of health benefits, a portion of the sales is donated to Yoga Gives Back, a non-profit that provides micro-loans to mothers of young girls in India for work and education.
