Suddenly, at the age of 28 I lost a huge clump of hair from the top of my head. Having always treasured my long, black hair locks I was mortified!

However, hair loss was just the beginning...

Over a period of time, I developed multiple almost-crippling autoimmune diseases, including rheumatoid arthritis, eczema, and hypothyroidism.

I was a wreck. I was bald, arthritic, covered in painful rashes, and extremely depressed.

It was scary and confusing because I’d been a strict vegetarian eating vegetables, whole grains and legumes for over 20 years!

I thought I was doing everything right.

The doctors told me I needed lifelong drugs to keep my diseases in remission, and that these drugs may damage my liver to the point of needing a transplant. As someone who had taken very few pharmaceuticals in her life, this was terrifying news.

So I visited a Naturopathic Doctor, but then she told me I needed to eat meat and quit eating grains and legumes! I thought she was crazy. I even stormed out of her office.

Ignoring her advice, I binged on various supplements. None of them worked. I felt so low, so down and just awful that I figured “what the heck”.

I started eating Paleo a year ago and have not felt so good in years. I am 64 years old and have lost 30 pounds, mostly around my middle. I wear a size 8 now instead of 14, and am no longer bloated, gassy and uncomfortable from eating grains. Who knew that eliminating them although difficult at first would be even possible. As a wonderful side benefit my joint pain in my left knee has significantly decreased so I now can walk so much better, about 5 km with my little dog, Bandit , is pretty common.
